Allan Gorman (B. 1947)
Brooklyn-born, Allan Gorman (1947) is a self-taught painter who brings his strengths as an internationally decorated graphic designer to artworks that certainly reflect his own unique and distinctive brand. Soaring chrome exhaust pipes set on a stark blue sky, mirrors that reflect the geometries of industry, a macro trip in-side clockworks – hard angles, strong colors and carefully thought through compositions permeate his work which has been seen in dozens of gallery and museum shows and private collections in both the US and Europe.
Gorman is an internationally known and recognized adman, graphic designer and brand marketing expert who started painting again in 2008 after a hiatus of more than 25 years, and has been making up for lost time ever since.
In 2013, he was awarded a Fellowship for Painting from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts - one of only six painters to win the prize, which is given only once every three years. In 2011, he was awarded a resident fellowship to Vermont Studio Center and will be going back for a second visit in the Summer of 2014.
Major exhibits have included solo and invitational showings at Gallery 50 (Rehoboth Beach. DE.); Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts (Binghamton, NY); The Miller Gallery (Cincinnati, OH); Lia Skidmore Fine Arts (Santa Monica, CA); at the Hyperrealism Show at The Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago; The Chattauqua Exhibition 2013; Mid-Atlantic Oil Painting 2012 and 2014 at the UMW Galleries (Fredericksburg, VA); the 2010 Arts Annual at the NJ State Museum (Trenton, NJ); ArtHamptons Art Fair (NY), Art Palm Springs (CA), and twice on Board the Luxury Yacht Seafair at Art Greenwich (CT).
